Troubleshooting
Each heading names a symptom. The causes are listed most likely first.
The MD Plugins tab is missing
Section titled “The MD Plugins tab is missing”The plugin did not load.
- The trust prompt was declined. The first time AutoCAD starts after an install, it asks whether to load the plugin. Decline, and the plugin stays unloaded and the tab never appears. Restart AutoCAD and accept the prompt; tick Always trust applications from MD Automation so it never asks again.
- AutoCAD was open during the install. The installer’s files are locked while AutoCAD runs. Close AutoCAD, run the installer again, then start AutoCAD.
- It is AutoCAD LT. LT does not load .NET plugins. The plugins need the full AutoCAD, 2025 or later, 64-bit.
A command reports no active licence
Section titled “A command reports no active licence”The plugin loaded, but this machine holds neither a trial nor a licence for it. Run
MDLICENSEMANAGER and read the badge on the plugin’s row of the Plugins tab:
| Badge | Do this |
|---|---|
| Inactive | Start the free trial, or activate a licence. |
| Expired | The 15-day trial is over. Buy a licence and activate it. |
| Not installed | The plugin is not installed in this AutoCAD. Install it, then see the section above. |
What each badge means: how licensing works. The steps: activate your licence.
The licence key is refused
Section titled “The licence key is refused”Validate reports one of four messages:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| That doesn’t look like a valid licence key | Copy/paste error: paste the entire key, including the key/ prefix and everything after the dot. |
| This licence key is invalid or was not issued by us | The key was altered or isn’t an MD Automation key: re-copy it from our email. |
| This licence was issued for a different computer | The key was minted for another machine: send a new request from the machine you’re licensing. |
| This licence has expired | Applies only to time-limited keys; perpetual Standalone keys never expire. |
There is no Start trial button
Section titled “There is no Start trial button”One trial per machine, and it cannot be reset, even after a reinstall. Once it has run, the row offers Request licence instead. See activate your licence.
Trackpad gestures do nothing
Section titled “Trackpad gestures do nothing”- Gesture mode is off. Run
MDTRACKPADonce to arm it. The choice is remembered across restarts, so this is a one-time step per machine. - The cursor is not over the drawing. Gestures apply only while the cursor sits over the drawing area. Over the command line, a palette or a docked window, the wheel behaves as it always did.
- It is a perspective view. Perspective views keep AutoCAD’s own wheel behaviour.
Increment numbered fewer objects than expected
Section titled “Increment numbered fewer objects than expected”Nothing is dropped silently. Every object the run found is in the changes list, and the ones it did not write are greyed with the reason: a field-bound value, formatted mtext, or a value that was already correct. See what gets skipped, and why.
