Rotate & Flip: overview

Rotate & Flip turns and mirrors a selection in place. Native ROTATE and MIRROR treat a multi-object selection as one group swinging about a single base point or mirror line; these commands transform every object where it sits, around its own pivot: the insertion point for a block, the geometric centre for everything else.

There is no base point to pick and no mirror line to draw.

  • Ribbon: the Rotate/Flip panel on the MD Plugins tab, with a Rotate and a Flip drop-down. The button face remembers the last command you used.
  • Right-click: select objects, right-click, and open the Rotate/Flip submenu.
  • Command line: type the command name.

The right-click Rotate/Flip submenu: Rotate CW and Rotate CCW, then Flip Horizontal and Flip Vertical

Command What it does
MDROTATECW Rotate each selected object clockwise by the configured angle (90° by default), around its own pivot.
MDROTATECCW The same, counterclockwise.
MDFLIPH Flip each object across its own vertical axis (left–right), in place. Swaps Left ↔ Right attribute justification.
MDFLIPV Flip each object across its own horizontal axis (top–bottom), in place. Swaps Top ↔ Bottom justification.
MDROTATEFLIPSETTINGS Walk every preference in one pass; see Settings below.

MDROTATEFLIPSETTINGS walks each preference in turn, defaulting to its current value, and writes once at the end, so a run you abandon halfway changes nothing.

Setting Controls Default
Rotation angle Degrees per MDROTATECW / MDROTATECCW. Flips are unaffected. 90
Keep transformed objects selected Whether the objects stay selected afterwards, so Enter or Space repeats against the same set. Yes
Use dynamic rotation Whether rotating drives a block’s own rotation action instead of moving geometry. Yes
Use dynamic flip Whether flipping toggles a block’s own flip parameter instead of mirroring geometry. Yes
  • The selection survives: unless you turn it off, the transformed objects stay selected, so pressing Enter or Space runs the command again on the same set. Useful for stepping a symbol round 90° at a time.
